2015 News stories and updates
Nine Worlds 2015 ran from the 7th to the 9th of August at the Radisson Blu Heathrow, near London, with 357 sessions in 35 tracks over three days. The hotel was packed with attendees enjoying parties, panels, talks, concerts, demonstrations, games, swordplay classes, tastings, workshops and competitions. This page gathers together coverage, reports and media from the convention to give a feel for the event.
Following their popularity last year, we'll be continuing to offer pronoun badges at registration. This time there will be substantially more, so we're confident that we won't run out this time.
The badges take the format 'My pronoun is…' followed by one, zie, sie, hir, co, ey, they, she, he or a blank badge to write your own preferred pronoun.
Not sure where your badge is, how to pick it up, what name it's under? This is the page for you.
There are a number of sessions at Nine Worlds that require sign up in order to participate. This page gathers them all together.
We strongly suggest that you think in advance about how you're going to eat while you're at the convention. As discussed in the 2014 feedback report, if you haven't thought about this it can have a significant impact on the quality (and cost) of your convention experience. It can be useful to make a food plan with your companions: make sure you set aside time to eat, and consider bringing / carrying snacks during the convention, too.
Radisson
At the Radisson we have a number of food options. These include:
We analysed all feedback from Nine Worlds 2014, and this report came out of the Feedback-o-tron. In finest geek tradition, it's very, very detailed. Enjoy!
The 2015 convention booklet has gone to print. All attendees will get a copy when you register on site, at the same time you collect your badges and goodie bags. However, a bunch of the information is really useful to know about before coming.
Feel free to have a read of it, but please use our web schedule for planning what sessions you're going to attend. Only the web schedule will have the latest, most reliable information.
A London Underground workers strike has been announced for 5th-6th August. If the strike goes ahead, the Piccadilly line and other London Underground lines will likely be shut all day on Thursday. To get to Heathrow by public transport without using the Underground, we recommend considering the following routes:
Update 30/7 - Due to high demand, we've added further tickets across all sessions!
Jensen's will lead a session on what it takes to set up a distillery in London, London's gin making history and the old fashioned styles of gin that inspired Bermondsey Distillery.
Nine Worlds is thrilled to be hosting the 2015 Gemmell Awards for Fantasy. The David Gemmell Awards for Fantasy enters its seventh year in 2015, once again recognising and rewarding the very best in fantasy fiction and artwork each year.
Nine Worlds 2014 ran from the 8th to the 10th of August at the Radisson Blu Heathrow, near London, with 330 sessions in 30 tracks over three days. The hotel was packed with attendees enjoying three days of parties, panels, talks, concerts, demonstrations, games, swordplay classes, tastings, workshops and competitions. Nine Worlds 2013 was a huge success, taking over two huge London conference hotels for the weekend of August 9th-11th. It was the first Nine Worlds Geekfest, and was set up following a successful Kickstarter campaign earlier that year. Watch the video below for a tiny fraction of the awesomenosity.
We've also curated a playlist of videos recorded at Nine Worlds 2013.
