Wanted: Official photographer

Photographer applications are now closed. Thanks to all who applied - we were overwhelmed by the level of interest! We're assessing applications and will be in contact with the successful applicants soon.

We’re looking for a photographer to capture the awesomeness of Nine Worlds Geekfest 2014.

If we appoint you, you’ll get the following excellent advantages:

  • Attend the full three days of Nine World Geekfest, 8-10 August and be accommodated at our Heathrow, London hotel for free. You’ll need to cover your own travel to Heathrow and food for the weekend.
  • You’ll be able to charge Geekfest attendees modest fees for copies of your photographs.
  • We’ll be willing to pay modest fees for the right to use your photographs to promote future Nine Worlds Geekfests. We won't be expecting the copyright - just licensed use. You retain copyright.
  • Meet lots of lovely people and have a wonderful time.

What sort of photographer are we looking for?

Essential

  • You’re able to attend all three days of Nine Worlds Geekfest, 8-10 August 2014 at Heathrow, London.
  • You have a demonstrable record of taking crisp, clear, in-focus shots of people looking like they’re engaged and enjoying themselves in indoor settings.
  • You enthusiastically support our inclusion and anti-harassment policies, meaning you’ll strive to photograph a wide range of people. If your Flickr is filled with pictures of thin young white women in revealing outfits, you’re not the photographer we’re looking for.
  • You’re organised: willing to work with Track heads to make sure you’ll be at their most visually interesting sessions.
  • You’re diplomatic and a good verbal communicator who has the confidence to make sure they get the best pictures and the good judgement to know if you’re getting in the way.

Desirable

If you have the equipment to set up a photobooth for more formal Cosplayers or group photos during times when there are no sessions on, we’d love that! And we’re fine with you charging attendees modestly for copies of these photos.

How to apply?

Email publications@nineworlds.co.uk by 25 June 2014 and:

  • Tell us how you meet the criteria.
  • Send us links to some of your work that’s relevant to our criteria. We’re talking specific albums or sets, not your whole Flickr, portfolio or website.
  • Tell us what you would charge attendees for copies of photographs and Nine Worlds for the rights to use your pictures for publicity. Bear in mind that Nine Worlds operates on a tight budget, is funded only through ticket sales and run entirely by volunteers.
  • Ask any questions!
