Live Action Quidditch

We're very pleased to be joined at Nine Worlds by Quidditch UK, who will be running open games on Saturday afternoon so you can learn to play!

The sport of Muggle Quidditch first originated back in 2005 at Middlebury College in the US, when a group of students decided to don capes, mount broomsticks and create an adapted version of the fictional wizarding sport for those of us who didn't get Hogwarts letters. Eight years later, it has spread all over the world; with hundreds of teams in over five continents and the International Quidditch Association (IQA) being the governing body who oversee and assist the various national Quidditch organisations to further spread and develop the sport across the globe.

QuidditchUK is the UK's quidditch organisation and it works to develop the sport in the UK in various ways, including organizing snitch academies & referee training/certification, helping new teams to get started and assisting teams who host Quidditch tournaments, such as the recent Highlander Cup (Edinburgh) and the Whiteknights Tournament (Reading). Despite Quidditch only being established in the UK for about a year, there are now many active UK Quidditch teams and new ones are forming all the time, thanks to the hard work of Quidditch players and volunteers across the country.

Attendees at Nine Worlds will get the opportunity to learn about the sport from our experienced players during either of the two sessions on the Saturday. Once you've learnt the basics of the game, you'll be given a broom, assigned a team position (whether that is Chaser, Keeper, Beater or Seeker) and will get to play a Quidditch match with your fellow convention attendees. Even if you don't wish to join in with the games, our QuidditchUK volunteers will be available to answer any questions you might have, from “Can you actually fly?” to “Is there a quidditch team where I live?”.

Hope to see you there!
