Decolonising fanfic and queering Tolkien
Jade has loved Middle-Earth since she listened to the Lord of the Rings audiobooks at age 8 and, several years later, spends her free time writing liberating fanfic about brown dwarves that explores being mixed race and non-binary cultures. She is interested in how race is shown in Tolkien's writings, especially how fans of colour respond to the work from a non-academic perspective, and has contributed to discussions about this in response to the popular 'Ask Middle-Earth' blog's series on race and culture. She has spoken on panels about faith, activism and being a trans person of colour, and she is also Editor of upcoming non-binary magazine Beyond the Binary.
