Ro Smith

SFF writer, philosopher

Ro Smith is a philosopher and a writer of science fiction and fantasy. She recently completed her doctoral thesis, On the Plausibility of a Strong Transcendental Response to Scepticism, at the University of York. As a fan, a writer, and as a philosopher, she is fascinated by robots and AI, and she has a strong research interest in cognitive science and the philosophy of mind. She sees speculative fiction as the natural outlet for exploration of philosophical ideas and is passionate about reading genre texts through a literary and philosophical lens. She takes an active part in the online community, writing on her critical review blog, the Rhubosphere. She also wrote regularly for the Girls’ Guide to Surviving the Apolcalypse, and her blog post, ‘Remembering Margaret Cavendish’, was included in the award winning Speculative Fiction 2012.
